OUR FOUNDER AND OUR STORY
Doña Katy
BenditoChile® Founder
Bendito Chile was created by a brave and enterprising mother, Doña Katia or rather Doña Katy (as her close friends know her).
She was born in Cartago and together with her two brothers, she was raised by her grandparents.
At the age of 16 she met her husband “Don Shey” as he was affectionately known, they decided to get married and together they decided to start a family.
She was always an explorer in the kitchen, inventing her own recipes and reinventing many others already known and traditional. Having four children under her wing, she was always looking for ways to cook “different things” for them.
Mrs. Katy saw her children grow up and began to see the need to reinvent herself. Even without a degree in administration, finance or similar, but with all the experience in the home, she put aside her fear and decided to undertake a project that began at her home’s table, in social activities and in the family.
She knew that many people, especially from her social circle, enjoyed the famous “chileras”, so she decided to experiment with various recipes. After an endless number of comments by his acquaintances such as “this sauce is delicious, it should sell” the idea of “Chile Doña Katy” as it was known in its beginnings was born.
At first, she felt very insecure because she had no idea what it meant to create a company, however, she put her project in prayer and asked God to guide her on her path.
In a very special way, God puts within her reach a well-known Biblical story in the 2nd Book of Kings Chapter 4 “The Widow and the Oil” and it is there where a new name is born for what began as a “time spent” in that kitchen between dishes and spoons.
Bendito Chile, as we know it today, is now a family project that was born in the most traditional of Costa Rican cuisine, where Katia Ulate, with the unconditional support of her children, is now an essential part at the table of many Costa Rican families.
It is available in 3 presentations:
Spicy, Medium Spicy, Spicy with Coconut
“I thank all those people who have supported me in one way or another; this project is the result of God and many angels that I have encountered along the way. This is where God’s promise to inherit a company to my children and grandchildren begins to come true.
I invite you to try it and to always have it at your home’s table”
Much love,
Doña Katy
